- I promise this is the ONE and ONLY super- way-too-personal-thing-to-put-on-a-blog I put on here.

This is an essay I had to write on why my eating disorder meant so much to me, I entered the CFC at the end of September 2010.

I really didn't understand what my eating disorder could do until my freshmen year of high school. I began to gain weight after swim season and saw that I wasn't fitting into my pants anymore. I was on a bunch of diets since the sixth grade and this really stressed me out. I decided to do something about it, so one day I just tried making myself throw up. It worked. When I realized it worked and on the scale the next day I dropped a pound, I was ecstatic. I began to do it on and off for a couple of months, just when I wanted to. Then one summer I gained over fifteen pounds and I freaked out even more. I began purging again, but I noticed that my weight was staying the same. I then began to restrict also, and I was finally getting the results I wanted. Between that and running over five miles everyday, I was going from a size 6 to a size 4 to a size 2 and then finally to a size 0. People began to recognize me, boys in particular. I was getting complimented left and right for whatever "diet" I was on. Boys finally wanted to talk to ME. My eating disorder gave me a false sense of confidence by giving me the idea that if I stayed skinny, more boys would like me. Clothes began to look a lot better on me, I was a smaller size then my best friend, finally and I was smaller than my sister. My sister was always tinier then me my whole entire life. I had this false sense of elation that I was better because I was thinner. I had a "friend" who stuck by me whenever I was sad or lonely. "Ed" would help me and understand the issues I was going through. If I was feeling fat he would help me learn how to drop five pounds a lot faster this time around. He knew what would make me "happy" and he wouldn't let me go. I didn't want him to go, he was helping me to become what I've always wanted to be, pretty.

I am a "people pleaser". I can't stand it if someone doesn't like me or saying no to anyone's requests. I just wanted to fit in and with my eating disorder I felt like I was achieving that goal.
I really didn't see any consequences from my eating disorder until my junior year of high school. When I went to see the doctor she said I could have problems getting pregnant or ever being able to have a child at all. I would have thought that this would have been a wake up call for me, but apparently not until much later. I realized that my eating disorder did come with consequences, but I didn't care. I started caring my senior year in high school, when I entered the Center for Change the first time. I tried so hard to get over this, but I realized that it would take years before this awful mentality I had would leave. One consequence freaked me out. I love to perform. I love to perform on stage in musicals and sing. I have taken voice lessons for years and have loved it. My senior year I participated in the musical "Grease" and played the part of "Rizzo", a lead. This is actually when I was in the deepest of my eating disorder. One day when I was purging, I cut my throat and it started bleeding a day before we opened. I wasn't able to sing at all. I was freaking out, not knowing what to do, I vowed I wouldn't purge again or until after the musical was done. It scared me, but I didn't want to let "ed" go. I have so many other physical consequences from "ed", like losing my hair, my skin getting worse. I am finally realizing that the bad is most definitely outweighing the good when it comes to my "friend". I don't want it to happen to me anymore.

The more I began to be in my eating disorder, the more my self esteem plummeted to the ground. One of my main vices is comparing myself to others. At first, I would compare my body to those close around me, especially my best friend and older sister. Not really anyone else. As I got closer to "ed" I realized that my body wasn't good enough and I began comparing my body to any girl that walked through the door. If she was smaller than me my confidence would go down, but if she was bigger than me I would feel better about myself. That would literally make or break my day. It's all I thought about. I would always get so much anxiety about what I was going to eat next or if I would have enough time to go and purge before my next class. I didn't care about anyone else. No one else mattered. I thought that once I reached my goal weight everything would fall into place, but it didn't. I still wasn't good enough and I was too selfish to go and reach out for help because I didn't think I needed it. I wasn't close to God anymore or the gospel. I didn't see my self worth through His eyes; I saw it through my eating disorder's eyes. When I would go to church, I would just feel worse about myself. I think I compared myself more there, then anywhere else. There was always someone better than me. Better voice, better clothes, better attitude, better smile, and a better body. I envied each and every single girl. Church became a prison for me of constantly comparing. I felt spiritually dead inside. I literally had no relationship with God or anyone else. I felt so alone.

In high school I had a really great group of friends that I would hangout with, literally everyday. There were Hayden, Jake, Dallin, Andrew, Kelsey, Jillian, and Sam. They were all my best friends. We would have so much fun together, this was when my eating disorder was on the down low. Nobody knew about it and I, at times, forgot about it. During my senior year I would get text messages and calls from my friends wanting to hangout with or to come and see me since all of them had graduated already, except Sam. I wouldn't reply. I wanted to be all alone in my room, I was too scared to go out because I knew my friends loved to eat and I didn't want them to see me if I gained a couple pounds, I couldn't deal with it. A couple of months passed and the texts and calls began to stop. They all moved on with their lives while I was trapped in mine, and it's my fault.

Nobody really knew anything was wrong with me, I would put on my fake mask and make jokes. I began to lie to everyone around me, to my parents, sisters, and friends. I wouldn't go to seminary anymore, I told my parents that " I was fine" and so much more. Everyone around me began to disappear. Nobody wanted to deal with me because they didn't know that what was coming out of my mouth was the truth or just me pushing them aside. I wasn't at peace with myself mentally or emotionally. I would just shut down, I wouldn't speak to anyone. My only friend became "ED". I depended on him, he was, at least I thought he was, the one only one that stayed by my side. I was best friends with him. On the weekends I would just stay home and lay in bed all day, hoping that I wouldn't have to eat. When I came up here, to Utah, for school, I became even more distant from all my friends back home. I wouldn't return my parents phone calls or any of my friends. My friends drove up through Provo and wanted to see me, but I wouldn't answer. The people who truly made me laugh and I felt most comfortable around, I wouldn't give them the time of day. My grandpa, a couple days before he passes away, wanted to see me, but I wouldn't answer the phone. This hurt me the worst. How could I be so horrible that I wouldn't even see my grandpa? Instead the last time I got to see him, he was in a wooden casket, eyes closed, with nothing left in him. That is when I decided that that would be the LAST thing that "ed" would take away from me. I didn't have any good relationships, I was always sitting in my room, I was scared of food, I was afraid of people, I was afraid of many things. I realize now that my eating disorder has taken so much from me, different experiences that I will never, ever get back, but by getting rid of it I can become everything I have wanted to be. It makes me so mad that I let myself get this far, but I am taking a stand now. "ED" will no longer take things from me because I am breaking up with him.

I really have no excuse, I don't have anything cool happening, but whateva I guess anything I do is cool anyways so nevermind. The only thing I really have to talk about is the father/daughter bonding time I had with my pah-pa about a week and three days ago and the fact that I like to take pictures of myself. We were going to go to the Original Pancake house for dinner, but they
were CLOSED. Seriously who closes before five o clock? Don't they know pancakes for dinner is a million dollar idea? Whatever, their loss. We just went to the food court instead and had some pizza. I love my dad and all that he does for me!

It's true ladies and gents, the four seeds of wisdom planted in my mouth have now grown into a beautiful bushel of crooked teeth. In other words, my wisdom teeth are getting pulled.

I was seriously hoping I was the miracle in the family that got the x-ray back with no wisdom teeth or maybe just one, in perfect form, ready to be pulled. My family isn't good with these teeth of wisdom. My older sister Cate went under crying and came out of the surgery the same way. My younger sister Hailey went under laughing and came out laughing. I am the tie breaker, I feel the pressure.

Eating disorders are serious and here is this guy just ranting about that if you aren't a size zero, you're fat. That "managed anorexia isn't a diet, but a lifestyle". I honestly want to punch him in the face. Knowing firsthand what eating disorders can do and affect ones life makes me realize how uneducated people in this world are on this matter, and how our society has become so obsessed with sizes and vanity. Eating disorders can't be cured by "just eating". It's a severe mental disorder. Recovery is a long road. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, we each need to embrace ourselves. God doesn't make mistakes.

She is by far my craziest friend, and I mean that in the most sincere, loving, most wonderful way possible! I swear I can be my crazy, normal self around this girl and know I won't be judged. From reindeer tipping on peoples lawns every christmas, walking into Little Ceasars to get a picture with all the employees, to pretending we're "gilly" from SNL, musicals, fast food runs that turn out for us talking for hours, spending five hours in Forever 21, and making the creepiest noises possible. I swear, I can tell her anything and know that she'll understand. This girl is so crazy and fun, sweet on the inside, and gorgeous on the outside! I am happy to call her one of my very best friends.

A really good memory is hard to come up with when I have tens of thousands, but I did come up with one that actually meant a lot to me. During my senior year I was student body historian and so I was really close to all those on "e-board". Which included Mary who was student body president. We sort of have this tradition of taking a picture with us in the same pose, in so many different places. I love her.

I have not blogged in forever, or a couple of weeks, but still I need to get better at this. Anyways, I am finally here up in Provo! Or in other words, P-town. I truly do love it up here, I mean the weather is nice right about now, who knows, maybe I'll complain when the first snow hits my face and I start screaming. I was really lucky and had some close friends throughout high school, but two of them that stood out the most were two of my best friends, Alani Ergina and Celia Myers. We all are going our separate ways for school. Seal (celia) is at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas, playing soccer. She already left and I have hated not having her here. This is when skype comes into play and my loving devotion to it takes place. Seal and I have skyped everyday this week and will continue to do so! We three way with Alani too! And since I am leaving tomorrow and will no longer see Alani either, we will be known as the skypters and do it all the time, heyo!

Yesterday was my birthday, and to be honest it was low key and I loved it. Like every year on August 3rd I celebrated my birthday with Brother Laidlaw at the the Laidlaw's house, and I love it. Who can say they celebrate their birthday with Larry? NO ONE CAN. No one but me. Anyways, I woke up on August the fourth and went shopping with my Mama and got some very nice things which I love also. Then went to BJ's for dinner...again (ask Cate, already went there to celebrate with her). I can't help it! Blame the pizookies. Then my friends took me out, all in all great great day! It really does feel different to be 19.

Okay, so for this whole summer (and past) I have been working at a lovely recreation pool called Silver Mesa for the City of North Las Vegas, yee! It's been a lot of fun, especially since I work with a lot of awesome people. For example, my very good friends Sam and Lori and Teylor and so forth. I've made a lot of new good friends too, basically we're all just a big, happy family with some kids we wished weren't related to us. Anyways, I do have some pictures from it with some stories behind it recently so I'm going to share them.

This is from the spirit week we had, it was big hair day. I didn't even have to try! I just woke up and let my mufasa hair do it's thing.

Also, I think working at the pool as ruined my no caffeine thang I had going on. I was so good until this summer. Now I drink my diet coke everyday, and it's not good...Teylor and I have a fetish with it, and to be honest I don't want to give it up.

I have one of these beauts about once every other day.

Ahhh okay, so today at work, we had slide time for TWO HOURS. It was probably the best slide time I've ever had to be honest. Anyways, afterwards, before family swim, we layed out and well our dear friend Sal didn't think he was close enough to the sun, so he started stacking the chairs up. He started out with three on the bottom, and realized he could do much much more.

This past trip to Utah was SO FUN. It truly made me excited for college and made me want to work hard to get up there. Anyways, a recap of what went down is in order. On tuesday, I went to Cafe Rio with Lori and Kayla, to meet up with Lori's sister and Cousin. It was delicious, as always. They were super fast when they made the food! I swear my quesadilla was in my hands right after I ordered it. Then after the rio we went back to the apartment, and I practiced my songs for my audition into the Music Program at UVU. I sang "There are worse things I could do" from Grease and "Anchor of my Soul" from the EFY songbook. I was able to use a piano at my sister's friends house, so that was a major plus. After that we painted our nails and played "Poophead" (a card game) so sO SO many times. It was fun. Then after that we met Cate up at Applebee's (she had to work all the day long) for Karaoke night. Unfortunately, everyone and their mama wanted to sing, and the wait was like an hour and a half long so no no, we did not do it. Then came wednesday, we woke up and went to McDonald's for breakfast, and then I went back to the apartment and kept on practicing. Then at 11:00, I had my audition. Cate came with me. It was truly nerve wrecking, but I have a good feeling about it. Utah Valley has a really nice campus, and Ms. Benish (the director) was a lot of fun. It made me even more excited to come up to Utah! I then said adios to Cate (she had work...AGAIN) and went back to the apartment, picked up Lori and Jessica, got frozen yogurt with Kayla, and hit the road again. Oh, so many stories from this ride home, but these pictures will explain parts of it...

The drive home...Utah is actually pretty during the summer.

Okay, here is the story on this one. We made a pit stop in St. Geezy and Lori was craving water. Not just any water. Water from Starbucks. Apparently it's free and such so we went through the drive thru to get her it. As we pulled up the guy asked what I wanted and I told him and I also said "it's for my friend here..." then it took him FOREVER to get this cup of water. We started groaning and stuff and then pulled up to the window. He handed me the water and said," I heard you guys grunting and moaning." Awkward. The end.

At this very moment, I am sitting on my dear dear sisters brown couch in her family room in Utah....I LOVE IT HERE. I am seriously so excited to start my life here as soon as possible. I was lucky enough to get off Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off of work to come up here with one of the coolest people on earth, Lori Truman. We both wanted to visit Cate and Kayla. Grand decision on our part, grand indeed. We started driving at around 2:30 yesterday and seriously stopped in every town to use the restroom, but I loved every second of it. From the talks of work, boy situations, dane cook, and the music it was best. I love Lori. Then we finally arrived super late but I was OH SO HAPPY TO SEE CAITLIN AND KAYLA! I adore them so very much. We made a quick Mcdonalds run and then went to sleep.

We then woke up early this morning and went to Park City with Kayla and Caitlin's friends. Cate drove them in her car while I drove with Lori and Kayla in mine. It's such a pretty drive. We got a lot of nice little things at Banana Republic and other such places, and then made our way home. Well, Lori, Kayla, and I thought we were on our way home until we realized we were on our way to fuh-reaking Wyoming. We most definitely got on the wrong highway and drove for over a half hour thinking we were on our way to Provo until Lori said "I don't remember there being any red rock on the way up here...". So, I most definitely took the most illegal U-turn of my life on this highway and turned around. An hour and a half later, we were on our way back. It's all good though, because I had these pretty ladies with me the whole time.

On our way back we met up with Cate and Lori's cousins and ate at Iggy's. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Then after we got in our swimsuits, met up with Audrey and went to Cate's ward lake party. (Kayla couldn't go and I was sad). We went to deer creek lake for this adventure and it was so fun. We wake skated and it was BEST. After we met up with Kayla at Yozone. Best coconut flavored yogurt in the world, I must say. Now we are watching Leap Year. I love this.

I truly need to get better at this blogging thang, no more excuses. Anyways, this dear friends is a recap of my senior prom 2010. I finally got to go!! So exciting, especially since I will remember this prom, unlike last years....ask me about that mess later.

Props goes to Cate for the dress and my hair. She truly is talented and I love her. I also loved when people asked me where I got it from and I could answer, "well my sister lives in London and totally got it for me, so yeah..."

Prom was so fun! We started out at like 6:00 and met at the Marriott for pictures, and to settle into the hotel room. After that we took some pictures, then went to the Kona Grill for dinner. That place is SO GOOD. I literally died from being so happy. After we went to Rainbow Gardens for the dance...it was totally in the ghetto, but hey as long as it looks good, I do not mind. After that the dance we all went back to the hotel room to get the party started....except me. I changed and my best friend Sam and some friends came and picked me up because I did not want to be friends with Jack Daniels. We went to U-Swirl, which is best, and then I went home. All in all it was a grand prom.

We're extremely awkward. I love it.

Last night turned out SO CUTE. As a senior class, we came up with the Senior Superlative Grammy night thang, and it was formal, and EVERYBODY dressed up, it was so fun! We had a red carpet, and celebrity performances from Destiny's Child to Justin Bieber to Miley Cyrus.

I was actually Nancy O'dell (sp?) from Access Hollywood and nominated for "most likely to sing in the shower"..........yes I'm that cool. I just love it a lot, Senior year is by far my favorite. Also today I took my senior pictures at town square with the beautiful Anna Rasmussen and Kata Dean, they are fun and I love them, truly. Everybody was staring when I was wearing my ten foot steve madden shoes, I was towering all over the little children. We also realized, that the women who shop at Town Square have the biggest rings on their left hands, like they themselves carved the diamond they wanted out of the diamond rock.

I think I can handle it though, if I just layer myself with heat of some sort.

Eh, why is it that basically every time someone likes me, they're weird?

No offense or anything, but to keep sane I would like someone NORMAL to think I was attractive or appealing. For instance, today. I was at play practice, and apparently I wasn't paying attention, so I got the only other girl as a partner, while every other girl, except another group, got boys. Yes, I was fine with it, until I found out that girl was not liking them boys, she was liking them girls.

Yes, it's true. She winked, she flirted, she gave me the stare. To get this sudden thing to stop, I made up this fake boyfriend I had. You know what, the girl didn't believe me. If she doesn't believe I could have a boyfriend, then no one in the world thinks that.

Oh, and this creeper of a bald guy sub hit on me today in

math class. Yes he stared AND winked approximately 22 TIMES. Yes, something else to make my day complete.

ME: Oh, hey.

BOY: I guess your wondering why I am here.

ME: ( silence )

BOY: Well Emily, I broke up with my girlfriend.

ME: Really? Again? Why?

BOY: Emily, I told you I would leave my girlfriend for only one other girl.

ME: Who that be?

BOY: YOU EMILY!

ME: Uhhhh.

BOY: That's why I am taking you to Prom.

ME: Your what?

BOY: Taking you to prom, I like you Emily.

ME: Well, thanks BOY but I can't go.

BOY: What the. Why not?

ME: I'm uh not uh I... ( I couldn't think of anything ! WHY!!!! )

BOY: You're going with me.

PLOT: He bombards me, once again.

That is California Pizza Kitchen. We went there for sadies and they never fail to bring me the most fantastic food that satisfies my needs. Which reminds me, OH SADIES. It was quite eventful and fun. We started by taking pictures in the park, which I did not know that Dallin's sister was taking, but oh well it was funny. Especially the picture all SIXTEEN people in our group took jumping. That is besides us lagging on the right.

Ahh. There be the four on the right trying to be different by not jumping. Cute. Well after this , we went to CPK suckaa. Which was goood. Then right after that we went to the Stratosphere and rode all the rides. It took two and a half hours, which was fine by me. We bought them tickets for all the rides anyway, and forced them on. It was raining and we were in a cloud. Right before we got on the last ride, we were taking these pictures of how frightened we were being so high up, then this lady smoking with her loving husband ( or lover ) asked us where we were from and we said "from right herrr" and she started shaking weird, I think it was dancing, on the stairs saying

"Our city is the best!"

I never laughed so hard at a smoker.

Basically, it was hilarious. Then we were supposed to go mini golf in the glow and the dark one, but we were on a time crunch I guess? So we were supposed to go to Kayla's house to make pancakes instead, but instead of that we went to IN N OUT. Which I was totally and completely fine with. Except for the fact I lost my wallet there. So if anyone who has been there recently and has found a lovely, nordstrom black wallet, filled with eighty dollars, could you please return it to me?

My favorite thing in the whole world, is when people make up theories of tragic events, to entertain their lives a little bit more. A couple days ago, my theater teach ( whom I student aide for ) forced me to glue newspapers to his set, for his play " The Tempest". Anyway I am sitting there, glueing at the same time, and 9/11 comes up randomly. Mr. K loves politics, Mr. K likes to prove that he is right, Mr. K is delusional. He sat their for an HOUR AND A HALF, telling me that 9/11 was staged by the U.S government, so people would support George Bush. He also said, that there wasn't even a plane at the pentagon.

Ummm excuse me? I have seen pictures of the plane at the pentagon. I told him that he should look online and check again because its there. Oh, but of course I was wrong, and didn't even know what I was talking about. He said that they planted bombs in the pentagon to make it look like a plane hit it. As I looked at him, I was trying not to argue. For when I argue with Mr. K, its like arguing with a little child. He stomps his feet until he is right. When he finished talking, I said, " I'll look into it. Find out this evidence for myself. " He told me that I should do that. Oh, if only I could yell at him.

Oh, here Mr. K. In this picture it sure seems that that is a leftover plane piece.

Anyway onto happier things. I went to the outlets today to get some Sadie's stuff to wear. Anyway everybody in our group is wearing the Hollister shiz.

AHAHAHA. look at this picture of Jeff, Jana, Shannon, Caitlin, and me! how funnnny. but anyway this week has been so so. its really strange though because the school day will go by really fast but then the week keeps on dragging on and on. it makes me sick to my stomach [as does fish].

well today caitlin and i went to the fashion show mall to buy jerseys from FOREVER 21 for jersey day next week..they are super cute. Earlier I saw my life flash before my eyes. but the saddest part was it was boring [ meaning my life] haha for real. i had a lot of memories flash before me of the laidlaws....weird.

Then i ate this massive slice of pizza. it was very tasty and delicioso. caitlin had some too..hers was gross. we have no idea why. i personally believe its karma biting her in the elbow of all the times she was mean to me. and this sign was to show her that if she keeps on being mean to me all of her pizza she eats for the rest of her life will be mushy, thick, and uncooked. haha. i am only just kidding. Caitlins cool. Its so weird that she will be leaving to college! and jana too!

AHA. i get my permit next monday! how sick is that? soon i will be cruising on the road in Flora the Focus eating sonic at the same time. Thats what i call multitalented.

well as you can see nothing really interesting happened to me this week. except i did watch like a marathon of this show " newport harbor " which is i might add a good show. OH and next week is sadies week. how exciting.

I am going to dedicate this blog to Jana Laidlaw . You know why? I have no idea.

Anyway i have known Juan since i was a young gal here in vegas. She used to ignore me and pretend i wasn't alive until around the sixth grade when i carpooled with her. haha. no seriously though. That's when I became funnier, you know, i was funny enough to go up to her level and be funny with her.( if that makes sense ) Anyway Janita is the funniest person i know. besides me. no kidding she is actually funnier than I. haha. I mean we are alike. I mean I love Sonic..she loves sonic. I like itunes...she likes itunes. I mean come on you can totally see that we were twins seperated from birth. haha. Man oh man i am excited...i am a BLOGGER. hahaha.

Well, basically i just want to get a tatoo on my forehead that says. " SHAME".

Actually, no i don't because tatoos are hideous....ecspecially on foreheads.

As you all know our winterbreak is over...crap. I basically have been soooo lazy these

past two weeks. I have gone to bed at around one or two in the morning and then gotten up

at like eleven each day. SEMINARY IS GOING TO KILLL ME. or if it doesn't my parents are

because my grades aren't so grand this year. ANYWAY to happier news. The semester will be

over in a week and i will only have eighteen more weeks of being a sophomore and then i will

be a junior baby. baha. That will be exciting. And then in the summer Caitlin will leave and I

will get two rooms. One will be for naps and the other will be for longer naps.

That makes everything better.
